Made from Birch and Cedar (2 most abundant trees surrounding Phoebe Lake, BWCAW)  Layered with strips of clear birch hardwood surrounding the cedar stripped core . The grip and the blade both are made with lightweight, clear cedar and clear birch hardwood.

   What a beauty!  Take this paddle on long trips, use it to push off at the landings, it will take the abuse!!  This is just an amazing looking paddle, and is also made to last.  A large blade area makes the Night Shadow one of our best paddles for solo power thrusting.  As with all of our HD series canoe paddles, this paddle is a little stiffer and a little heavier (2-3 oz.) than our other series' of canoe paddles. Asymetrical pear-type grip for ultimate comfort.  Laminated with solid poplar.

   The nameless prototype for this paddle design was tested in the boggy swamps of northern Minnesota.  Near to Steak Lake, I tested this paddle through 5 hours of snow and wind and 8 hours of meandering swamp streams.  What a great paddle!!  It performed well, thrusting through the frigid water into the tough wind.  It was used over and over all week-long for pushing through the shallow bottlenecks and landings--no scratches!!  Hence the name--Swamp Runner. Handcrafted from white ash and beautiful cherry.
